Lancaster Castle occupies a city -centre hilltop location on the site of three successive Roman forts. It consists of an extensive group of historic structures,
 including the 12thc  Keep, the 14thc Witches' Tower, the 15thc Gatehouse, and the  Female Penitentiary, which dates from the early years of the 19th c.
It is a Grade I Listed Building, with the area to the north of it  designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument . It is currently used as both a Court and a Prison.

The Georgian Old Town Hall on the Market Square, built 1781-1783 and restored in 1873, is now a municipal museum. The historical department with
 prehistoric and Roman exhibits and an interesting exhibition on the development of local industry together with the department on the King's Own Regiment,
stationed in Lancaster since 1880, deserve a special mention.

Lancaster Canal:
Opened in 1797 the Lancaster Canal, along which goods barges traveled from Preston via Lancaster to Kendal from 1819, is still navigable south towards Preston and north to the eight locks of Tewitfield.

Forest of Bowland:
The Forest of Bowland is designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty (28mi/45km southeast). This is an area of moorland with heights ranging between
1,000 and 1,836ft/305 and 560m (highest point Ward's Stone). The area is traversed by a number of roads often steep and narrow, which are convenient for
walkers and also used by motor traffic. The "Trough of Bowland" is a pass at a height of 1,000ft/305m. There are a number of particularly attractive places in
 this area, such as Whitewell in the picturesque Hodder valley with trout fishing in the river.

 One of the country's oldest working theatres, the show has gone on for more than 200 years.Tours of the exuberant Edwardian interior can be arranged
 by appointment via the box office. Running for 45-60 mins, they may include a glimpse of actress Mrs Sarah Siddons, the Ghost-in-Residence.
Box Office open 10am-3pm. Extended opening until 6.30pm WednesdayThe Grand can accept credit card orders by phone. Tickets are usually on sale two
 months prior to an event.

Maritime Museum:

This museum occupies two historic buildings on St. George's Quay, the main 18th century harbour. It was opened in 1985 and has won many awards.
 The former Custom House of 1764, designed by Richard Gillow, contains interactive displays on the history of the Port of Lancaster and the local fishing
industry, including an excellent push-button audio/video show of Bay maritime history, with a gallery for exhibitions. In the adjacent warehouse are displays
 on the Lancaster Canal and the ecology of Morecambe Bay. Several preserved vessels are also displayed, including 'Sir William Priestley' and 'Coronation
Rose'. There is a cafeteria and shop and parking is available at the rear.

The Priory and Parish Church of St Mary was founded in 1094 by Roger de Poitou on the site of the earlier Saxon church. Exquisitely carved mediaeval
choirstalls and the King's Own Memorial Chapel.


Morecambe Prom:
It's a lovely wide promenade walk - flat with good access, loos etc. A
fantastic view across the immense sweep of the bay to Lake District and that BIG SKY feeling with the odd seagull doing the ambience. There's a cute little
 train that can take you from the Eric Morecambe statue up the Prom to the cafe at the end of the Stone Jetty and back if you're not a big walker. On the land
side there's loads of shops - gifts, clothes outlets, cafes, pubs etc. There's the best market between Carlisle and Preston (maybe better than them) with a big open-air
add-on on Sundays and during festivals there's good free live entertainments on the Prom - street theatre, live music and all sorts of wonders.

Lancaster were formed in 1841 and ever since have played to the high standard of cricket, strived for by both players and members. They play at Lune Road,
Lancaster under the setting of the famous castle on the hill. Now members of the Northern Premier Cricket League Lancaster have always maintained a high
